Analysis of Environmental Contamination with the Field Lab "Hawkeye"

Agency: NIH
Period of Performance: 2005
Completed at: Intelligent Optical Systems (USA)

A mobile, small size and low power consumption autonomous laboratory with abilities including in-time monitoring of soil and water contamination, atmosphere multi-gas content, temperature, humidity, UV, ionizing radiation, and microbiological background is being developed. The system uses highly sensitive portable spectrometers and laser sensors. The basic model includes the laser spectrometer and diode lasers and may be installed in any car, robot, helicopter, or in a backpack. The Hawkeye technology is based on the photonics principles with response time of fractions of seconds. This makes it possible to provide relatively fast monitoring of large areas. The next advanced model will include non-linear fiber microscope and several environmental sensors.
