Laser Ablation Fiber Optic Probe for Surgical Maze Procedures
Agency: NIH Period of Performance: 2005 Completed at: Intelligent Optical Systems (USA) A unique fiber optic laser energy delivery catheter for the treatment of atrial fibrillation has been developed. This new instrument can provide physicians a tool for producing linear lesions, which have been found to be effective in treating this disorder, with minimum damage to the surrounding tissue. The Long-Period Grating Simulator has been developed to design effectively a fiber diffuser incorporated into catheter. The laser catheter is a significant improvement over existing tools. Dr. I. Peshko designed and manufactured the fiber diffusers. ![]() Related publications |
